Torque Is Power: Bosch Unleashes 100 Nm Motor Update, New Kiox

Bosch 100 Nm update

Is Bosch responding to the increasing competition in the full-power ebike segment? That’s the impression you might get from the newly announced updates. With a motor update, Bosch is increasing the power and torque of its Performance Line CX motor. A new version of the CX Race drive should make Bosch a better competitor in the racing sector again. And a new Kiox display ensures better integration.

1. More power for the Performance Line CX Gen.5: 100 Nm upgrade
2. Bosch’s new eMTB racing machine: Performance Line CX Race BDU38
3. New eMTB+ mode for CX & CX-R
4. Kiox 400C expands Bosch’s display lineup
5. eBike ABS and ABS Pro receive a software update
6. M+ for more control in automatic shifting

1. More power for the Performance Line CX Gen.5: 100 Nm upgrade

Starting in July, a planned update for the ebike Flow App will allow even more flexible performance tuning on ebikes with the current Performance Line CX motor (BDU38). In addition to customizing speed, dynamics, support level, and torque, riders will now be able to adjust maximum power output. The Gen 5 CX motors will deliver up to 100 Nm of torque and 750 W peak power—up from the previous 85 Nm and 600 W—offering up to 400% support. This upgrade should help tackle technical and steep terrain even more easily.

Downsides of the 100 Nm update

As good as 100 Newton meters sounds, this innovation also has its downsides. In addition to the general question of whether so much power is necessary, higher performance data also means more stress for the components. On the one hand, this affects the battery, which now must provide more energy. This means that if you are equipped with the Performance Line CX Gen.5, ride a lot in the highest support mode and want to ride with a full 100 Nm and 750 W, you will have to accept a significant reduction in range. On the other hand, the mechanical components of the drivetrain, such as the chain, chainring and cassette, are also subjected to greater stress. In the medium term, this leads to increased wear and thus to higher maintenance costs. Riding behaviour should also not be neglected. If you like to use the ebike at maximum power, this can also have a negative effect on riding enjoyment. In addition to a bumpy ride, too much power can also mean less control, which can be dangerous.

Customize support modes via the Flow app

Riders receiving the 100 Nm update should familiarize themselves with the Bosch ebike Flow App to fine-tune assist modes. Do you really need full support all the time, or would a more relaxed and efficient setup suit your riding better? This is especially relevant for trekking riders aiming to balance power and range.

No upgrade for Performance Line CX Gen.4 BDU37

Owners of a Bosch ebike with a 4th generation Performance Line CX motor don’t need to worry about whether they really need 100 Nm of torque and 750 W of power. This is because the newton meter update will be available exclusively for the BDU38 motors and the newly introduced Performance Line CX Race. Nevertheless, it is still worth looking at the Bosch ebike Flow app to find the perfect mode settings for you.

The big question, though, is how exactly you can tell which motor is in your ebike, Gen.4 or Gen.5? You can’t tell from the outside. Luckily, there’s an app for that. It tells you which motor you’ve got. The following part number must be mentioned: EB11 100 00E. This abbreviation refers to a Bosch Performance Line CX Gen.5.

However, if the part number EB11 100 001 or EB11 100 000 appears in the app, this indicates that this ebike is powered by a Bosch Performance Line CX Gen.4.

This information can be found in the Bosch eBike Flow app in the eBike Pass. Under the menu item ‘Components’, there is a subcategory called ‘Drive unit’. Look there for the information on the part number.

2. Bosch’s new eMTB racing machine: Performance Line CX Race BDU38

Alongside the upgraded CX motor, Bosch introduces a revamped CX Race drive, also based on the BDU38 platform. Both share key specs—100 Nm, 750 W, 400% support—and a unified frame interface. However, the CX Race goes further with high-end materials: powder-coated magnesium housing in space grey, a titanium crank axle, and ceramic bearings, trimming the weight to just 2.7 kg.

Six-Dimensional Sensor System in the CX-R

To optimize rider-bike synergy and extract every fraction of a second in races, the new CX-R motor includes ultra-sensitive sensors. Pedal input is analysed up to 1,000 times per second, supported by precision torque and cadence sensors, as well as inertial sensors that assess terrain and bike orientation in real time.

Race Mode Remains Exclusive to the CX-R

The CX Race motor retains exclusive access to Race Mode, which delivers immediate, full 400% support with no delay. It extends the “Extended Boost” feature, allowing riders to clear tough climbs even after stopping pedalling. Like all modes, Race Mode is customizable via the Flow App.

3. New eMTB+ mode for CX & CX-R

A new eMTB+ mode, launching in July for the CX BDU38, offers a more powerful and trail-focused experience than the standard eMTB mode, which prioritizes range and efficiency. It includes features like “Extended Boost” and a built-in traction system called “Dynamic Control,” which adjusts power delivery based on terrain conditions.

4. Kiox 400C expands Bosch’s display lineup

In addition to the pure power of the ebike system, clean and intelligent integration is also important for eMTBs. This is exactly where Bosch comes in with the new Kiox 400C top tube display. Manufacturers can now integrate a high-resolution display directly into the top tube of upcoming ebikes. The display has a 2-inch screen diagonal and Ride Screens that can be customised using the eBike Flow app. In conjunction with the Bosch eBike app, the Kiox 400C also offers a navigation function and warning tones. An absolute first for Bosch displays in the Smart System is an integrated USB-C charging socket, which enables external devices to be charged directly. Previously, this was only possible inductively via the Bosch SmartphoneGrip or via a micro USB-A socket. In addition to three control buttons on the display itself, the Kiox 400c can also be controlled with the familiar Bosch Mini Remote.

Kiox 400C retrofit Options

Although designed for 2026 bikes, the Kiox 400C can be retrofitted on some 2025 models (e.g., Cube, Scott, Haibike) that feature a suitable top-tube recess. If replacing the Bosch System Controller, a minor ID conflict might arise but does not impact functionality and can be corrected by a dealer.

5. eBike ABS and ABS Pro receive software update

New Gen 5 motors feature improved sensors enabling enhanced ABS functionality. The upgraded data processing allows more precise braking control and shorter stopping distances—no extra rear sensor disc required.

6. M+ for more control in automatic shifting

Bosch’s M+ mode, introduced at Eurobike 2024, enhances TRP’s automatic eShift system. It blends manual and automatic shifting, allowing riders to retain full control while pedaling. When coasting, the system selects the optimal gear for a smooth restart.

    1. Hello,
Since the Radrover 5 is eqipped with a rear hub motor and the update refers to the Bosch Performance Line CX, a mid-mounted motor, this is no option.
      Cheers, Matthias
