EBike Flow App Update 1.25 Brings New Link Between Bosch and Komoot

Update 1.25 for Bosch eBike Flow App

The new year is not even a month old yet and Bosch is already revealing new functions for its Smart System drive. The 1.25 update for the Bosch eBike Flow app includes three key features: closer integration with the navigation service provider komoot, a new zoom function for the navigation view, and an increase in riding comfort for all ebikes equipped with a Rohloff E-14 hub gear, which was announced back in summer 2024.

1. Update improves connection between Bosch eBike Flow app and komoot in the future
2. Practical zoom for navigation view in the Ride Screen
3. Auto-Downshift for eShift with Rohloff E-14
4. Release schedule for update 1.25

1. Update improves connection between Bosch eBike Flow app and komoot in the future

Bosch and komoot have been working together for quite some time. Nevertheless, there has always been a technical barrier if you wanted to use both apps together as profitably as possible. If you had planned tours in komoot and wanted to use them in the eBike Flow app, you had to at least save them in komoot and then open the Bosch app separately. This intermediate step is now no longer necessary.

Under the name ‘Live Sync’, komoot and Bosch have set up a new link between the two apps. The first step is to create a route in komoot as usual. What’s new is that you will then be asked how you want to use the navigation – either on your smartphone and staying in komoot, or whether you want the Bosch eBike Flow app to start directly. If you choose the second option, you will immediately receive a push notification from the eBike Flow app, telling you that you can now start navigating the corresponding route.

Update 1.25 for Bosch eBike Flow app allows to start navigation in the app directly from komoot
After you have planned your route on komoot, you can start navigating directly in the Bosch eBike Flow app.

According to our information, this procedure can even be applied to group tours. This means that you can share the planning with everyone invited on a joint tour. They too could then start the navigation directly. We haven’t had a chance to test this part of the update yet. We’ll do it as soon as possible, we promise. 😉

This seamless transfer of routes also includes spontaneous route changes. If you want, you can change the route while you are riding, in the komoot app. The route is automatically updated in the eBike Flow app at the same time. The same applies to adding or deleting stopovers.

Starting navigation in the eBike Flow app directly from komoot should also work for group rides.

Use komoot as a source of inspiration for further bike tours
The new function includes another feature that you will find in the planning view of the eBike Flow app under ‘My Routes’. A jump-off point to the komoot app appears there, which you can use to access route suggestions from komoot. The tips displayed there are based on your current location. This means that you can dispense with your own detailed route planning and get inspiration from tours that other people have already ridden. This is particularly useful if you are travelling in an unfamiliar area, as you may come across some great surprises.

From the ‘My routes’ menu, you can switch directly to komoot and get suggestions for routes near your current location.

If you want to use Live Sync, your Bosch eBike Flow app account must be linked to a komoot account. This was already the case in the past, for example, when tours recorded with the Bosch eBike Flow app were to be automatically uploaded to komoot.

Important: Live Sync will go online with a slight delay. Komoot wants to wait until update 1.25 of the Bosch eBike Flow app has been rolled out everywhere before implementing the function. This process should ensure a smooth start for the feature. As things stand, komoot will activate Live Sync for the eBike Flow app in February 2025, probably around the middle of the month.

2. Practical zoom for navigation view in the Ride Screen

While riding, the map in the navigation view of the Ride Screen shows you a limited section of your tour. To the left of the map, data such as the remaining distance to your destination and the estimated arrival time are displayed. Sometimes it can be helpful to have an overview of the entire route instead of a section of it. Bosch makes this possible with a new button. When pressed, it zooms out of the map so that you can see the entire route. Pressing the button again returns you to the familiar view with your current position in a smaller section.

3. Auto-Downshift for eShift with Rohloff E-14

At Eurobike 2024 in Frankfurt, Bosch presented the Auto-Downshift for its eShift solutions for hub gears. With some delay, the actual implementation is now following suit. Updating to version 1.25 of the Bosch eBike Flow app enables automatic downshifting when you come to a stop with an ebike equipped with the Bosch Smart System and a Rohloff E-14 hub gear. You can choose which gear you want to start in by default. All 14 gears of the Rohloff hub are available. The setting can be made in both the Bosch eBike Flow app and the Rohloff app. In the case of Bosch, you will find the corresponding menu item in the ‘My eBike’ menu under the item ‘eShift’. The function can also be deactivated at any time there and in the Rohloff app.

It seems that any of the 14 gears can be selected as the starting gear.

This new feature also has its own schedule. Updating to version 1.25 of the eBike Flow app alone is not enough. The Rohloff E-14 also requires updated firmware. Rohloff will roll out this update with an update to their own app. This is not expected to happen for at least three weeks.

4. Release schedule for update 1.25

The transition to the latest version of the eBike Flow app is associated with several important dates this time. Generally, an update takes a few days to roll out before it is available for everyone in the respective app stores. For some, this will be the case as early as Monday, for others not until Friday or the weekend. Here is an overview of all the relevant dates:

  • Launch of the Bosch eBike Flow app version 1.25: 27th January 2025 until at least 2nd February 2025
  • Launch of Live Sync at komoot: expected in early February 2025
  • Launch of Auto-Downshift for Rohloff E-14: expected in late February 2025
