Important news from the Bavarian ebike manufacturer Cube. There is a risk of crank failure in various ebikes from the current model year. Due to the potential risk of a fall, riders should immediately stop using a total of 13 models. Here is an overview of all the details known so far regarding the recall.
1. What is the defect in the Acid crankset?
2. Which ebikes are affected by the recall?
3. What is Cube doing now?
4. What should you do?
1. What is the defect in the Acid crankset?
Today, Cube published a recall notice on its website for the Acid Carbon Hybrid (ISIS) 2026 crankset. This is fitted to ebikes from seven different model ranges. The manufacturer strongly advises that the affected ebikes be taken off the road immediately until further notice. The manufacturer fears that the aluminium threaded insert in the area of the pedal mount on this crank could suddenly break off. Indications of this were reportedly provided by the company’s ongoing internal quality monitoring. The defect poses an increased risk of an accident in which you could injure yourself and damage your ebike.
The recall explicitly mentions both the left crank arm – #30884 – and the right crank arm – #30885. All four crank lengths fitted are affected:
- 160 mm
- 165 mm
- 170 mm
- 175 mm

3. What is Cube doing now?
Cube has immediately created a website with all the details and published it online. You can view the relevant information at https://www.cube.eu/de-en/support/customer-support/safety-recalls/product-safety-recall-acid-carbon-hybrid-crank-arms.
To resolve the issue, there is only one solution: replacing the crankset. Cube has already launched a campaign via its dealer network to provide you with a replacement crankset. Both the replacement and compensation must be arranged through authorised Cube dealers.
As a replacement, Cube plans to fit an aluminium crankset. As the specifications and price are lower than those of the carbon crankset, the manufacturer is also offering you the Acid Pro-E 200 HB X-Connect headlight free of charge. The light retails for 149.95 euros.
In the shop, you can decide whether to accept the offer or decline it and instead wait for a new carbon crankset to be delivered at a later date. In detail, the offer is as follows:
- Option 1: replacement with aluminium crankset as a permanent solution + Acid front light
- Option 2: replacement with aluminium crankset as a temporary solution + subsequent switch to a new carbon crankset
For Option 2, Cube estimates an expected delivery time of around twelve months.
4. What should you do?
The first and most important step is to return the ebike to the bike shed immediately if you are riding one of the affected models. Your health and that of others is surely worth that much to you. Cube urges you not to take any risks.
You can check online on the Cube website to see if your ebike features a faulty crank. In the verification section, you’ll find an input field. Enter your ebike’s frame number there and click ‘Check now’. You’ll then receive confirmation as to whether the recall applies to your bike.
The frame number, always referred to as the WOW number by Cube, is usually found on the bottom bracket of the ebike. It should also be marked on a silver-coloured sticker on the left chainstay, the underside of the top tube or the underside of the down tube. Its format is always the same – ‘WOW’ is followed by five numbers and four letters. In the input field on the website, leave out ‘WOW’ and enter only the other characters.
If the check confirms your suspicion and the cranks on your ebike need to be replaced, please contact the dealer from whom you purchased the ebike. He will then carry out the final inspection and replacement on site.
