Gazelle Cabby C380: Premiere Longtail with Its Own Unique Touches

The longtail feels like this spring’s cargo bike. In addition to the new Tern GSD and the new Moustache Lundi 20, Gazelle has also recently unveiled a sturdy ebike with an enormous rear rack. The Cabby C380 is even a premiere for the Dutch bicycle manufacturer – and it has already won its first awards.

In Germany and many other countries, the ebike is considered an important piece of the puzzle for a successful transport revolution. Industry, politics and interest groups attach particular importance to the e-cargo bike. It can replace individual car journeys and, in the ideal case, even make some cars completely redundant. Of course, it must offer the necessary space for loads and passengers and be approved for a correspondingly high payload. The Gazelle Cabby C380 meets these requirements so well that the Dutch Association of the Bicycle and Automobile Industry (RAI) named it Cargo Bike of the Year 2025. It also received the iF Design Award 2025 in the Longtail E-Bikes category.

Rear rack as the real heart of the bike

The juries for both awards emphasised above all the versatility of the longtail’s large rear rack. A total of four MIK HD profiles are distributed along its length. This creates four places where you can click on compatible accessories such as child seats, boxes, baskets and bags. One option, for example, would be to place two child seats one behind the other. Once the children have outgrown the child seats, they can be replaced with separate seat cushions, which can also be attached with just one click. Gazelle also offers a matching footrest, backrest and a railing called Monkey Bar. Or you can use a child seat together with a seat cushion. With a permitted load capacity of 80 kilograms, you can even transport adults on the rear rack.

If you mainly want to transport luggage, work items or other objects, simply swap the cushions and seats for click-on boxes. These are available from manufacturers such as Basil and others in various sizes. Gazelle offers large 34-litre panniers that can be attached to the left and right of the rear rack. Their storage space can be divided into two sections. In one section, a child sitting on the rack can dangle their feet while you stow your shopping in the other section.

Extra features cost extra

The only downside to the whole story is that most of the items mentioned are not included in the basic equipment and must be paid for separately. This applies to:

  • Gazelle Cabby footrests: 49.95 euro
  • Gazelle Cabby safety bar: 99.95 euros
  • Gazelle Cabby back cushion for safety bar: 34.95 euros
  • Gazelle Cabby seat cushion: 59.95 euros
  • Gazelle Cabby pannier: 129.95 euros
  • Gazelle Cargo front bag: 119.95 euros

The last accessory mentioned, the Cargo front bag, is designed for mounting on the front luggage rack of the Gazelle Cabby C380. It also uses the MIK standard and can therefore be combined with other accessories. It can carry a maximum weight of 15 kilograms.

2. Close to the familiar riding experience

As a longtail, the Cabby C380 has the advantage of closely resembling a conventional ebike. Unlike a cargo bike such as the Longjohn, where the cargo bed is located between the handlebars and the distant front wheel, you only need to get used to a slightly different feeling when riding. With two frame sizes of 45 centimetres and 55 centimetres, the ebike measures 196 centimetres and 200 centimetres in length respectively. That’s 11 and 15 centimetres more than the new Moustache Lundi 20. However, the comparison is somewhat misleading. After all, the French cargo bike rolls on 20-inch wheels, while Gazelle features 26-inch wheels at the front and rear. This increases the turning circle slightly. On the other hand, the larger wheels make for a smoother ride.

3. Frame for Cabby C380 in two sizes

Like the Lundi 20, the Cabby C380 features an aluminium frame with only one down tube. It doesn’t quite match the slim tubes of the Moustache. Looking at the pictures, the step-through height doesn’t seem quite as low either. However, Gazelle scores points with its two frame sizes. According to the manufacturer, the version with a 45-centimetre seat tube is suitable for people with a body length of 160 to 175 centimetres. Those who are between 175 and 190 centimetres tall are better off choosing the frame with a 55-centimetre seat tube. Many manufacturers compensate for the one-size-fits-all design of their longtails with good options for adjusting the saddle height, handlebar height and the distance between the handlebars and the saddle. However, if the actual frame size is closer to the dimensions required for my body height, finding the optimal seating position is much easier. And with two frame sizes, Gazelle effectively doubles your chances of feeling really comfortable on the Cabby.

What’s more, the manufacturer doesn’t rely solely on the effect of the two frame sizes to ensure comfort. An angle-adjustable stem is also fitted. This allows you to adjust the cockpit to suit different arm lengths and seating preferences. This is useful if you take turns riding the ebike with another person in everyday life. No matter who is in the saddle, everyone benefits from the additional riding comfort provided by the suspension fork with its 80-millimetre travel.

Safety and even more space for luggage

The same applies to the practical details on the Cabby C380. This starts with the generous rear wheel and drivetrain fairing. Not only does it protect these components from dirt and grime, it also prevents passengers or objects from getting caught in it while riding. The handle on the saddle is also a helpful feature. It provides a good grip for lifting the bike when manoeuvring at a standstill or carrying it. When you fold out the sturdy double kickstand, you will also notice a small open compartment. Gazelle has designed the space between the two seat stays directly behind the seat tube and the battery as storage space and integrated a box into it. Various smaller items can be stored there. Just bear in mind that the storage compartment cannot be closed. What’s more, anything you put in there could make noise, as the box is made of plastic.

Passengers can rest their feet safely on the footboards. The fairing on the rear wheel and chain stays ensures that nothing and no one can get caught in the rear wheel or drivetrain.

4. E-drive featuring Bosch power

As with most of its ebikes, Gazelle has opted for a Bosch ebike system for its first longtail cargo bike. The latest Bosch Performance Line CX from the Smart System provides the assistance. In terms of performance, this is absolutely the right choice. However, the Cargo Line from Bosch would have been an even better fit. Its cargo mode, which is only available on this motor, increases the assistance to 400 percent compared to the 340 percent of the Performance Line CX. In addition, its start-up behaviour is set so that the power is delivered a little more gently at the beginning. However, you can change this yourself for the CX motor using the settings in the eBike Flow app.

With its torque of 85 Newton metres, the Bosch Performance Line CX can easily move even a fully loaded Cabby.

The e-drive is operated via the LED Remote on the handlebars together with the Bosch Kiox 300 display. A Bosch PowerPack is used as the battery. It is located behind the seat tube and can be easily clicked out for charging and carried to the desired location. This means you don’t have to carry the approximately 36 kilograms of the Gazelle Cabby C380 there yourself.

You decide which PowerPack is fitted to the ebike when you buy it. The Bosch PowerPack 400 comes as standard. However, for an additional charge of 300 euros, you can also have the Bosch PowerPack 545. And if you add another 300 euros, you get a Bosch PowerPack 800. The decision needs to be carefully considered. After all, the cargo bike only has a single slot for a battery. Bosch DualBattery is therefore not an option.

5. Gazelle focusing on easy shifting and low maintenance

When it comes to the drive, Gazelle limits itself to one variant. Fortunately, this fits in extremely well with the concept of the ebike. The manufacturer combines the stepless Enviolo Heavy Duty hub gear with a carbon belt from Gates. A twist grip switch allows you to select the right gear for the riding situation from a range of 380 percent. Thanks to the belt, the gear system requires minimal maintenance in everyday use and perhaps one professional inspection per year. This is one reason why other longtails such as the Cube Longtail Hybrid, the Specialized Turbo Porto and the Tern HSD also offer exactly this combination.

In terms of price, the Gazelle Cabby C380 ranks somewhere in the middle of its competitors. Its base price of currently 5,699 euros is around 1,300 euros above that of the Cube Longtail Hybrid and at the same time around 900 euros below that of the Specialized Turbo Porto.
