With Its New Newtour E+ Urban Ebike, Giant Focuses on Safety and Riding Comfort

Giant Newtour E+ ebike for the 2026 season

New name, familiar concept. Giant is refreshing its range of urban ebikes and introducing a new urban ebike, the Newtour E+, for the 2026 season. It picks up where the manufacturer left off with the Dailytour E+. However, the ebike system, the motor and the frame have demonstrably been further developed.

1. What is the new Giant Newtour E+ designed for?

A quick two or three-kilometre bike ride into town for some shopping. Or strap your sports bag to the rear rack and off you go to training. Or fill your water bottle, grab your sunglasses and helmet, and off you go on a weekend trip with a relaxing 20-kilometre ride along the cycle path by the river. The new Giant Newtour E+ is perfect for exactly these kinds of occasions. The demands placed on the ebike aren’t too high. But it should definitely be comfortable and safe to ride. And ideally, the price should settle at around 3,000 euros.

The profile is primarily that of an ebike that allows you to get about in an urban environment regardless of the weather or time of day, and which you can use for various errands. At the same time, it should at least begin to bridge the gap to a touring or trekking ebike. This calls for a riding position that still feels comfortable after 20 or 30 kilometres. A sufficiently large ebike battery. And a full range of equipment including mudguards, a rear rack, permanently fitted lights, a side stand and a well-designed anti-theft system.

With two side panniers on the rear rack, Giant’s new model instantly becomes a touring ebike.

2. Safety starts with the frame

Giant aims to meet all these expectations. To this end, for example, the Newtour E+ features a newly developed frame. Compared to the Dailytour E+, the seat angle has been significantly increased. As a result, you sit very upright, which should give you a good overview of traffic. At the same time, Giant expects this to help you avoid stiffness and similar discomforts on longer rides.

In addition, the chainstays and wheelbase have been lengthened. This makes the ebike ride a little smoother, especially at higher speeds.

Giant places great emphasis on the upright riding position on the Newtour E+. With the help of the angle-adjustable stem, you can determine just how upright you actually want to sit on the ebike.

As with other Giant ebikes, you can choose between a diamond frame and a low-step version. You can identify the frame shape in the respective model names by the abbreviations DD for diamond and LST for low-step. Please note in this context that the diamond frame is only available from frame size M upwards. The low-step frame is available in the four sizes S, M, L and XL.

The Newtour E+ has inherited its suspension fork, with 63 millimetres of travel, from the Dailytour E+. It is capable of absorbing small bumps and steps as well as uneven roads and paths. The suspension seat post provides additional riding comfort.

Given the maximum permitted total weight of 156 kilograms, you can carry quite a bit of luggage on the Newtour E+ – whether for everyday use or on extended bike tours.

3. An urban ebike with a front rack? Sure.

The fitting of a front rack is a first for a Giant ebike frame. A special mounting plate is recessed into the head tube for this purpose. A suitable rack can be bolted onto this using four screws. To save weight, it is made from an aluminium grid. Thanks to its large base and the sides that extend well upwards, it can hold quite a lot. The 15-kilogram load capacity ensures that even heavy items can be transported without any worries. And if you don’t need it for a while, you can simply remove it.

With the mount for an optional front rack integrated into the head tube, the new Newtour E+ currently stands out from all other Giant ebikes when it comes to carrying luggage.

Giant has already tested the concept of such an option on the current Liv Allure E+. It doesn’t appear to be a one-off either. Information on the Newtour E+ suggests that further models from Giant, Liv and Momentum are set to be released, on which the rack can be used.

The front rack is not only large enough but can also carry a substantial load, making it a capable helper in everyday life.

4. Giant SyncDrive Core 2 motor new to the Giant Newtour E+

As far as the motor is concerned, looking at the performance data, almost everything remains at the level you’ll be familiar with from the Dailytour E+ and the Giant SyncDrive Core fitted there. The Giant SyncDrive Core 2 now used in the Giant Newtour E+ has a slightly higher torque of 55 Newton metres. However, there is no change to the peak power of 300 watts or the maximum assistance of 300 per cent.

  • Weight: approx. 2.9 kg

5. Display and digital features in line with the times

The Giant SyncDrive Core 2 is embedded in Giant’s E+ system. By 2025, this system had made a significant technological leap forward and is hardly comparable to its predecessor. The firmware and electronics have seen a massive improvement in performance. Giant is using this new capacity to diligently integrate smart functions into the ebike system. To this end, the displays and control units have been thoroughly redesigned. All in all, the riding experience on a current Giant ebike has improved noticeably.

As a model at the lower end of the price range, the Newtour E+ unfortunately only benefits from some of the new features. Visible from the outside is the new display, the Giant RideControl Dash 2. Combining a 1.5-inch screen with a total of seven buttons, it is roughly equivalent to the Bosch Purion 200 from Bosch’s Smart System universe. Key information about your ride and the ebike is displayed across six screens, each with a maximum of two data fields. You can customise the display yourself without even needing to use the app. Everything can be done directly on the display.

For example, the new E-Lock feature can be activated via the display. This digital anti-theft system electronically locks the motor as soon as you park the ebike. To unlock it, you enter a four-digit code on the Giant RideControl Dash 2. If unauthorised persons move the ebike in the meantime, an alarm sounds and a warning appears on the display. The electric drive, of course, remains switched off in this situation.

If criminals are not deterred by this and steal the ebike, it can be located via the Apple network using an Apple mobile device. The Apple Find My feature required for this is integrated into the ebike’s system.

6. Limited range of Newtour E+ models in Germany

With the four models of the Giant Newtour E+, the manufacturer covers a price range from 2,699 euros to 3,499 euros. However, not everyone can enjoy the full range. Neither the top-of-the-range model, the Giant Newtour E+ 0, featuring a stepless Enviolo City hub gear and a Gates carbon belt, nor the entry-level Giant Newtour E+ 3 with the 8-speed Shimano Acera derailleur are available for purchase in Germany. We do not know the reasons for this.

The same applies to the Shimano Acera derailleur with eight gears.

In any case, Giant Germany only offers the Giant Newtour E+ 1 for 3,199 euros and the Giant Newtour E+ 2 for 2,799 euros. Both use a Shimano hub gear system. Instead of the customary Shimano Nexus Inter5-E, however, the Shimano Nexus 8 is used here, featuring eight gears and a wider gear ratio range. The Newtour E+ 1 also comes with a carbon belt, whilst the Newtour E+ 2 has to make do with a chain. The price of the latter model is lower because it also features a smaller battery with a capacity of just 500 watt-hours.

Giant combines the Shimano Nexus 8 hub gear with either a carbon belt or a conventional bicycle chain.

Perhaps as a small consolation for the reduced model range, however, there are still two versions – the Giant Newtour E+ 1 RT and the Giant Newtour E+ 2 RT – that feature a coaster brake. Anyone who is familiar with this brake from a previous bike and liked it there can take a closer look here. A slight drawback: Both the Giant Newtour E+ 1 RT and the Giant Newtour E+ 2 RT are only available with a low-step frame.
