Is it a targeted strategy or pure coincidence? About two weeks ago, Tern presented its completely redesigned flagship GSD. Now Moustache is introducing a new version of its Lundi 20 Cargo e-cargo bike. Just like Tern’s new model, this one is switching to Bosch’s current Smart System. In addition to a new e-drive, there are other major changes.
Since 2021, the French manufacturer from the Ardennes has been offering a compact cargo bike in its range. At that time, the longtail was still simply called the Lundi 20. Its last update was in 2022. So why not think about a new Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo? That’s what Moustache did. Six details in particular stand out in the result, which distinguish it from its predecessor. We will present these to you in more detail. And of course, you will also find out what Moustache has kept.
1. New frame for the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo
2. Premiere for suspension fork
3. Handlebar extended by crossbar
4. Front rack now part of the standard equipment
5. Park the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo while sitting?
6. Change to Bosch Smart System
7. Known strengths
8. Accessories for the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo
9. Model range knows new and semi-new
1. New frame for the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo
As soon as you lay eyes on the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo for the first time, you notice that one of its distinguishing features is missing. The manufacturer has done away with the double down tube. This was particularly noticeable on the Lundi 20 Cargo. Two absolutely parallel tubes ran completely straight from the seat tube to the head tube. The distinctive square created a space in which a frame battery was placed.
Instead, you now only see a single down tube. There is no battery mounted on it either. According to the manufacturer, triple-reinforced tubes nevertheless give the frame the necessary stability. For completeness, it should be noted that the previous frame also used triple hollow chamber profiles, which presumably had very similar qualities. Many other manufacturers continue to work on their long-tail cargo bikes with a design that incorporates the idea of two down tubes. This is how they ensure that the frame, which lacks a stabilising top tube, can permanently withstand the stresses of an e-cargo bike.
Comfort beats range
The big advantage of the new geometry and the lack of a battery in this position is the pleasantly low step-through height. It has been reduced by a full eleven centimetres, from 63 centimetres to 52 centimetres. You have never before been able to get on or off a Lundi 20 Cargo so comfortably. The only disadvantage is that the only place left to fit a battery is behind the seat tube. This also means that the Bosch DualBattery option is no longer an option. By contrast, the predecessor achieved a capacity of 1,000 watt hours with an optional second battery.
The new version of the cargo bike has earned its place among the compact longtails. With an unchanged overall length of 185 centimetres, it is on a par with a conventional urban ebike with 28-inch wheels. Thanks to its smaller 20-inch wheels, it also offers you a little more manoeuvrability in tight city traffic. As before, Moustache manufactures the frame in a single size. This should fit people between 157 and 190 centimetres in height. In any case, the saddle height can be easily adjusted using the suspension dropper seatpost.
2. Premiere for suspension fork
The second new feature is literally directly connected to the frame. What we mean is a new suspension fork. Until now, you had to make do with a rigid fork on the Lundi 20 Cargo. The SR Suntour Mobie34 is used, which has already proven its suitability on other e-cargo bikes such as the Ca Go CS or the Cube Trike Cargo Hybrid. Moustache has opted for the version with 70 millimetres of suspension travel. This more than moderate travel noticeably increases riding comfort. The suspension fork also compensates for rougher bumps to the front wheel and ensures that the entire bike runs more smoothly.
3. Handlebar extended by crossbar
The riding experience is also influenced by how comfortably the handlebars let you sit, i.e. what sitting position they support. Experience has shown that the typical Moustache handlebars, with their halves angled almost exactly 45 degrees to the left and right, promote an upright sitting position on the Lundi Cargo 20. This allows you to keep a close eye on what is going on around you.
For the first time, the handlebars feature a crossbar. You can attach various accessories to it. The manufacturer has primarily thought of mounts for a smartphone. However, there is a second, more elegant variant. Namely, the necessary space is hidden under the cover of the stem in the middle of the handlebars to mount a display mount for the Bosch Smart System there. You can then place a Bosch SmartphoneGrip on this, for example, and use your mobile phone as a large-format display. All the more so since it can be charged via the SmartphoneGrip while riding.
4. Front rack now part of the standard equipment
For the time being, innovation number four will have to make do without a name of its own. Fortunately, this does not detract from the practical use of the new front rack. It fills the gap between the larger Magnum and the smaller Charlie. Both racks can theoretically also be installed on the new Lundi 20 Cargo. Whether this is necessary compared to the standard front rack can only be judged by you based on your requirements. With a maximum load capacity of 15 kilograms and compatibility with the MIK system, the basic requirements are at least identical.
5. Park the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo while seated?
It is only when a cargo bike is fully loaded that you can see how well its stand works. Moustache had a bit of catching up to do in this regard. With the older Lundi 20 Cargo, parking the ebike on its stand was not always easy. The mechanism for unfolding the massive stand was placed quite far back and not easily accessible for everyone. Some riders found a workaround by going more or less all the way around the ebike to push it into the stand from behind.

With the new model, the manufacturer has made improvements. A new foot pedal is much more centrally located on the Lundi Cargo 20 and makes it easier to set up the stand. Moustache even says that you don’t even have to get off your bike to park it. Once parked, it is definitely very secure. A locking mechanism ensures that the stand does not accidentally fold up.
6. Change to Bosch Smart System
As we already touched on in the section about the new handlebars, the Bosch Smart System now powers the long-tail cargo bike. The changeover was likely one of the main reasons for the model series update. Only minor nuances have been made to the motor performance. In its special cargo mode, the Bosch Cargo Line motor now supports you with up to 400 per cent, quadrupling your own pedalling power.

With the Bosch PowerPack 545 and Bosch PowerPack 800, Moustache offers two battery sizes, which firstly ensure a certain diversity within the range and secondly compensate for the loss of the DualBattery option. As a reminder, there is only space for one frame battery on the new Lundi 20 Cargo instead of two. So, if you want to take full advantage of the ebike’s maximum load capacity often or are planning longer trips, you’ll probably want to look at the versions with the larger battery.
With features like over-the-air updates and digital anti-theft protection for the optional Bosch ConnectModule, it’s the smart features that set the system apart from previous Bosch systems.
7. Known strengths
When it comes to the maximum load for the rear rack, Moustache is in a good midfield position. The permitted 70 kilograms are, of course, a far cry from the 100 kilograms offered by an Atlas G rack on the Tern GSD. At the same time, it is sufficient to be able to use the full length of the rack if necessary to transport two children, an adult or plenty of other cargo.
A lot of plastic can be seen under the rear rack. Not everyone may like this visually. On the other hand, the splash guard ensures that neither the passengers nor their clothing nor any straps or ropes used to secure the load can get caught in the rear wheel. Large parts of the drivetrain – derailleur or hub gear with belt drive – also disappear behind a plastic guard, as before. The tail light with brake light function is equally familiar.
8. Accessories for the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo
Both clever and praiseworthy from an ecological point of view is the fact that all existing accessories for the previous Moustache Lundi Cargo 20 also fit the new Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo. Together with a few new items, we are talking about significantly more than ten products here:
Accessories for transporting passengers

9. Model range knows new and semi-new
When looking at the models, you’ll need to pay attention. There’s a ‘deviant’ among them. The manufacturer is entering the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo 1 as the entry-level model. With a price tag of 3,999 euros, it’s only an entry-level model in terms of price. That’s because it’s based on the old frame. This means: no lower access, no suspension fork, no new front rack, no improved stand and, despite the actual space available, no Bosch DualBattery either. To make up for that, you get the EQ package, which stands for equipped and includes the railing, footrests and handrail for children as standard.
Like the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo 1, the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo 3 also offers you a Shimano 9-speed derailleur. However, this is installed on a new frame that features all the updates mentioned. The base version costs 4,699 euros, but this does not include the EQ pack. With the accessories, the price increases to 4,999 euros. And if you need the larger battery with a capacity of 800 watt hours in addition to the EQ pack, the price is 5,299 euros.
In the top-of-the-range model, the Moustache Lundi 20 Cargo 5, the manufacturer swaps the derailleur gears for an Enviolo Heavy Duty stepless hub gear with a carbon belt. The additional riding comfort and lower maintenance are available without the EQ package for 5,599 euros. With the EQ package, it costs 300 euros more. And in combination with the Bosch PowerPack 800, the final price is 6,199 euros.
