What happens when Orbea’s urban ebike Diem meets a full-suspension e-mountain bike from the Spanish manufacturer? Let’s say, the Orbea Wild. Then boundaries are broken. Boundaries between models, between types of ebikes. Orbea has attempted to do just that with a new model for the 2026 season. Appropriately, the result is called Muga. In Basque, this means ‘boundary’, border or ’limit’.

1. Orbea Muga inspired by the Orbea Diem?
The Orbea Muga aims to overcome precisely these boundaries. To do so, the new addition to the range combines elements that we typically associate with urban ebikes with those from the world of trekking ebikes and e-mountain bikes. Of course, we don’t know exactly how the manufacturer went about this or what thoughts guided them. But looking at the Orbea Muga, one approach could have been: What would the Orbea Diem look like as a full-suspension ebike?
It’s an idea that comes to mind, as the frame shapes of the Diem and Muga have certain similarities. The steeply sloping top tube. The short strut that runs from the seat tube to the down tube above the bottom bracket. The unusual space created in this way in the smaller frame triangle. And if the seat tube of the Orbea Muga did not extend all the way to the bottom bracket, the rear triangle would also have a very similar silhouette.
2. Equipped for different terrains
In addition to these parallels, however, there are also a number of differences in the aluminium frame. The main reason for this is the integration of the shock. The single-pivot design offers 115 millimetres of travel. The suspension fork adds an extra five millimetres, bringing the total to 120 millimetres. Together with a standard dropper seat post, this results in a well-thought-out suspension concept that is primarily designed to increase riding comfort and effectively absorb moderate vibrations. Nothing for real single trails. But perfectly suited for paved forest paths and rough cobblestones.

The Orbea Muga’s suitability for a wide variety of terrain is further underlined by the use of different sized wheels. The front wheel measures 29 inches in diameter, while the rear wheel is only 27.5 inches. Ebike manufacturers usually opt for this setup to create a manoeuvrable ebike that can navigate around obstacles in the smallest possible radius. Sometimes this also proves extremely useful in city traffic.
3. A different approach to ergonomics
The new Orbea Muga shares its adjustable cockpit with both the Orbea Diem and the current Orbea Kemen. What makes it special is how the height and distance of the handlebars can be adjusted to suit the rider. This is not done using stems with a speed lifter or a joint. Instead, Orbea uses a system in which the stem is divided into two parts. The handlebars are mounted on the first component. You can attach it to the bike so that the handlebars are in a higher position. Turning the component around lowers the position of the handlebars. You can place an intermediate piece in front of this first component as a second component. This extends the length of the stem. Depending on how you turn the handlebar mount and use the intermediate piece, there are four different settings in total. Since Orbea offers the Muga in four frame sizes (S, M, L and XL), there are plenty of options for finding the optimal riding position on the bike.
4. Lighting and charging function seamlessly integrated into the Orbea Muga
A front headlight is integrated directly into the handlebars. It is the Supernova Starstream Pro. With its powerful LEDs, it illuminates the area ahead of you well. However, as it is permanently installed in the handlebars, this limits its alignment with the road. If you want to change this, you have to rotate the handlebars as a whole. This inevitably results in a new grip position. It’s best to test how you get on with this during a test ride. In addition to the front headlight, the Muga features the familiar daytime running light, which runs stylishly around almost the entire head tube.
The USB-C interface on the rear of the stem proves to be a great advantage in every conceivable use. On longer tours, you can use the connection to power your smartphone from the ebike system while, for example, navigation is running on the device. And even when cycling through the city in everyday life, we’re sure you can think of a few occasions when it would be extremely practical to be able to charge a mobile device while on the move. The device to be charged can also be larger. If in doubt, you can stow it in a bag that you strap to a front rack. The rack must be ordered separately from Orbea’s range of accessories. However, all Orbea Muga models come with the appropriate mount. The same applies to the SP Connect smartphone mount on the stem.
5. Extremely sturdy rear rack
If you want to transport several or larger items, you can use the rear rack. It is approved for a load of 30 kilograms. Its central loading area features mounts that are compatible with the MIK HD system. So if you already have the right accessories, you can click them into place on this ebike as usual. This also includes a child seat. When it comes to panniers, the rack can be combined with the MIK Side and Ortlieb QL3.1 systems. This opens up a whole range of possibilities for both bike tours and commuting to the office.
6. Orbea Muga featuring Bosch drive as an exception
Orbea usually prefers to use Shimano hardware for its ebike drives. The manufacturer then develops this further with its own software. Orbea also manufactures some of the batteries for these systems in-house. In the case of the Muga, however, Orbea has opted for the popular Bosch Smart System. A Bosch Performance Line CX is used, optionally combined with a Bosch PowerTube 750 or a Bosch PowerTube 600. The motor and batteries are well known. The drive unit will receive a powerful performance boost with the software update announced in spring 2025. As with the Diem and Kemen, Orbea has installed the batteries permanently in the down tube. This means they can only be removed for servicing. However, you can combine them with Bosch’s additional battery, the PowerMore 250, to further increase the range.
The Bosch Mini Remote and Bosch System Controller were chosen as the control units. On the top model in the range, the Orbea Muga 10, a Bosch Purion 400 replaces the System Controller.

7. Model series with a choice of hub gears or derailleur gears
Speaking of the top model. If this sets the tone for the entire series, the pendulum will ultimately swing a little more towards urban ebikes in the mix of different e-bike types. In our opinion, its continuously automatic hub gear from Enviolo, together with the carbon belt from Gates, is better suited to urban environments. Of course, such shifting comfort and low maintenance are also great advantages on a touring bike. However, if something does break on this setup, it could be more problematic on the go than if the nearest bike shop is only a few kilometres away.
Those who prefer a derailleur gear system can choose between two alternatives: the Orbea Muga 20 and the Orbea Muga 30. Apart from the gears, their features are similar to those of the Orbea Muga 10. On the Orbea Muga 30, a more basic suspension fork and smaller battery mean that we are talking about an entry-level price of 4,999 euros. The Orbea Muga 20 costs exactly 1,000 euros more. For this, you get a battery with a capacity of 750 watt hours, among other things. The Orbea Muga 10 costs 7,099 euros.
