When an ebike manufacturer fills a gap in its existing range and also improves tried-and-tested models, you’d call that a successful update, wouldn’t you? That’s exactly what can be said of Riese & Müller’s novelties for the 2027 season. Two models in particular are attracting attention: a completely new urban ebike called Veya and the fourth, thoroughly revamped version of the Multicharger.
1. Riese & Müller Veya: New urban ebike doesn’t prioritise lightness at any cost
2. Riese & Müller Multicharger4: More robust in future and with a unified silhouette
3. More distinct profile for the Riese & Müller Charger5
4. Riese & Müller opts for bold new colours for the Nevo5 for the 2027 season
5. Riese & Müller Carrie2 e-cargo bike becomes a speedy commuter
6. Riese & Müller upgrades Load5 with a motor-gear unit from Pinion
7. Disc brakes bring greater safety to the Riese & Müller Swing5
1. Riese & Müller Veya: New urban ebike doesn’t prioritise lightness at any cost
Veya. Does the name sound somewhat light to you too? Perhaps like a word you picked up on your last holiday? You’ve forgotten exactly what it meant. But it certainly stood for something pleasant. Something positive. In any case, that’s the name of the latest addition to the Riese & Müller range. It fills a gap perfectly – one whose size you probably didn’t even realise. For the 2027 model year, the manufacturer is discontinuing two model ranges that previously made up the segment of lighter city ebikes. Neither the Roadster nor the entire UBN model range – comprising the UBN Five, UBN Six and UBN Seven – will be continued in future.
At least the reasons for the discontinuation of the latter are obvious. Even under Porsche’s umbrella since 2022, Fazua has failed to bring its drive system up to a level where it functions reliably in the long term. It seems only logical that a company like Riese & Müller – which sees itself as a premium manufacturer and for which the highest quality is an absolute prerequisite for survival in the market – cannot tolerate such a situation indefinitely.
Figures and Psychology
The Riese & Müller Veya now fills the vacancy. Its ambition – and perhaps also its future formula for success – can be broken down into three characteristics:
- A total weight of less than 20 kilograms
- As versatile and customisable as any other Riese & Müller model
- In line with the manufacturer’s values
According to our information, breaking the 20-kilogram barrier was particularly important to the development department. No wonder. This figure plays a major role in the minds of many potential buyers. To achieve this, Riese & Müller is fitting once again a Bosch Performance Line SX motor into one of its own models. Although the manufacturer maintains very close ties with Bosch, it has so far only used the lightest mid-drive motor in the Culture and Culture Mixte models. The weight saving of around 800 grams compared with the Bosch Performance Line CX, combined with the SX motor’s increased performance – thanks to the Performance Upgrade 2.0 – offering 400 per cent assistance and a torque of 60 Newton metres, were apparently reason enough to give it another go.

In addition to the ebike system, the frame offered considerable potential for weight savings. Thinner wall thicknesses helped to bring the company closer to its desired goal. At the same time, it has remained true to its own principles. For example, the maximum permitted total weight is 140 kilograms. Given this figure, the optional MIK HD-compatible rear rack can be utilised much more effectively with its payload of 27 kilograms.
Material choice for the sake of the environment
The Riese & Müller Veya could have been even lighter with a carbon frame. However, there are currently no efficient methods for recycling the material once the ebike has reached the end of its product life cycle. Therefore, there is no alternative to aluminium at this stage. Especially as good options for refurbishment are now becoming available. And only this is ecologically justifiable for Riese & Müller. OK, with one small concession. The rigid fork on the lightest version of the Veya, the Riese & Müller Veya Light, is actually made of carbon.
The main frame, however, remains aluminium. It is available either as a classic diamond frame or as a low-step variant in frame sizes XS, S, M and L. As the manufacturer has the weld seams ground down, the result is, at the very least, an elegant carbon look.

Versatility as a well-known asset
It seems to us that Riese & Müller hasn’t fixated too much on the 20-kilogram mark as the ultimate benchmark. Instead, the manufacturer appears to have placed even greater emphasis on the versatility of its ebikes. All four different specifications – light, silent, vario and touring HS – are based on different motors. The range extends from the aforementioned Bosch Performance Line SX, through the Bosch Performance Line PX and the Bosch Performance Line CX, right up to the Bosch Performance Line Speed – the motor for the speed pedelec. Alongside this, each of the four models features a different drivetrain. Two derailleur gear systems, each with eleven gears, are complemented by two hub gear systems from Shimano and Enviolo, one of which is the new Enviolo Utility. On the one hand, this gives each model its own character, ranging from a fast daily commuter to a lightweight urban ebike and even a potential touring bike. At the same time, however, the weight quickly starts to tip upwards again, so that the 20 kilograms becomes little more than a vague memory. This is especially true if you’re considering adding the optional suspension kit with a suspension dropper post and suspension fork.

Battery, display, rear rack – which ones would you like?
Speaking of choice, you’ve got plenty when it comes to the battery too. With the exception of the Riese & Müller Veya touring HS speed pedelec, the down tube initially houses the new Bosch PowerTube 360 as a removable battery. Alternatively, you can switch to the larger Bosch PowerTube 600. Both can be combined with the Bosch PowerMore 250 add-on battery.
Riese & Müller fits the Bosch Purion 200 as standard display. However, if you prefer, you can also opt for the new Bosch LED Controller together with a Bosch Kiox 300. On the Veya touring HS, the manufacturer offers the combination of the Bosch Purion 200 and the Bosch Kiox 500.
And have we mentioned the standard rear rack yet? This is designed exclusively for attaching panniers. If you’d like a central platform with the option to attach bags, baskets or a child seat, the new Veya can fulfil this wish too. As you can see, it feels as though there are ten models packed into one. Well, we are talking about a Riese & Müller, after all. 😉

2. Riese & Müller Multicharger4: More robust in future and with a unified silhouette
Have you ever tried, when getting on an ebike, to swing your outstretched leg over the rear rack and the saddle whilst there are people sitting on the rack or it’s loaded high up? No? Then please don’t try it. The attempt is unlikely to end well.
Riese & Müller agrees. That’s why one of the key changes to the new Multicharger4 concerns its frame. From the 2027 model year onwards, it will only be available with a low step-through frame. This not only makes it easier to get on and off the ebike, but also makes it significantly safer for everyone involved. This means the previous distinction between models with mixte frames and diamond frames is no longer applicable. On the Multicharger4, the manufacturer has actually lowered the step-through even further compared to its predecessor. The division into two different frame sizes, however, remains unchanged.
A substantial upgrade
As well as the shape, a few structural details of the frame have changed. The area around the head tube and the motor mount now consist of solid cast components. This noticeably increases the frame’s stability. As a result, the maximum permitted total weight has increased significantly. It has risen from 160 kilograms to 200 kilograms. Thanks to this increased load capacity, Riese & Müller can also fit a more robust rear rack. You can now load it with 80 kilograms instead of the previous 65 kilograms. This opens up the possibility of allowing older children and adults to sit on it as well.
The new rear rack gains further practicality thanks to numerous mounting points for the MIK HD system. Anyone wishing to carry children on the Multicharger4 can choose to combine individual seat cushions to form a bench seat. Or fit a seat cushion and a child seat. Or two child seats one behind the other. The combination of a box and a child seat works just as well. You see what the manufacturer is aiming for. This flexibility is essential if you want to use a model like the Multicharger4 over a longer period as your needs change.
Little things making all the difference
The seat cushions themselves illustrate how Riese & Müller has focused on the finer details alongside the major changes. They remain comfortably soft, but are now made from a waterproof fabric. The foam seat that used to soak up rainwater is now a thing of the past. The safety bar, which runs around the passengers, can now be opened at the sides. This makes it easier for younger children in particular to get onto and off the rear rack. When open, the safety bar acts as a step for them.
Gone too are the days of the tedious process of removing and fitting the spoke and chain guards. These are now fitted in two parts rather than being secured by numerous individual Velcro straps. The two-leg stand features a modified pull mechanism that makes it easier to set up the Multicharger4. For the new angle-adjustable stem, the manufacturer has developed a dedicated mount in the centre for the optional ebike display. This can also be adjusted for angle. This means you can adjust both separately and have the best of both worlds – the desired angle for the handlebars and the optimal view of the display. There’s a new frame bag to fill the gap in the step-through area. The front rack takes up less space. The accompanying bag no longer protrudes as high. Many of the accessories now feature more reflective elements to improve safety whilst riding. And so on, and so on. The list could go on.
Tried-and-tested motor solution featuring Bosch Cargo Line
When switching from the Multicharger3 to the Multicharger4, everything remains the same in terms of motor choice. Three Bosch motors, as before. Not quite. Once again, the Bosch Cargo Line takes centre stage. Following Bosch’s Performance Upgrade 2.0, it now matches the Bosch Performance Line CX in terms of power output. This translates to a torque of 120 Newton-metres, 600 per cent assistance and a peak power output of 750 watts. The entry-level model of the new range, the Mulicharger4 Family, features the Bosch Performance Line PX. For models where the drive assists you up to a maximum speed of 45 kilometres per hour, the Bosch Performance Line Speed is used.
The entry-level Mulicharger4 Family model ‘earns’ its price of 4,999 euros, amongst other things, by featuring a smaller battery. The Bosch PowerTube 540 offers a capacity of around 540 watt-hours. All other models use the significantly larger Bosch PowerTube 800, with a capacity of around 800 watt-hours. In both cases, Riese & Müller offers both the Bosch PowerMore 250 and a large Bosch PowerPack 800 as optional extras for a DualBattery solution. This combines for a maximum of 1,600 watt-hours. Even when fully loaded and in a riding mode that is set to ‘Auto’, this should enable a range of well over 200 kilometres.
Special kits for particularly popular applications
Just as with its predecessor, the Multicharger3, Riese & Müller considers the Multicharger4 as a versatile ebike for transporting people, loads or plenty of luggage on multi-day tours. You can decide which aspect to prioritise by purchasing one of the corresponding optional kits. The manufacturer has expanded the range from four to the following five:
- Family Kit: Sideloader, Safety Bar, two seat cushions, optional front cargo rack and DualBattery
- Family Kit Plus: Sideloader, Safety Bar, two seat cushions, top and bottom weather protection, optional front cargo rack with bag and DualBattery
- Passenger Kit: safety bar, sideloader, seat tube frame bag; for HS models, the existing handle plus footpegs
- Cargo Kit: two large cargo bags, top tube bag, optional front rack with bag and DualBattery
- Cargo Kit Plus: Sideloader, safety bar, lower weather protection including tarpaulin, optional front rack with bag and DualBattery

3. More distinct profile for the Riese & Müller Charger5
Whilst Riese & Müller makes only minor tweaks to its other model ranges, there is comparatively significant change amongst the Charger5 variants. To date, there have been a remarkable eleven of them. The manufacturer is now streamlining the range, reducing the number to eight. The entry-level model for the 2027 season is the Riese & Müller Charger5 silent Core, featuring a 5-speed Shimano hub gear system. The Riese & Müller Charger5 touring pro is a new variant equipped with a Shimano electronic derailleur, which can be set to shift automatically if desired. Furthermore, the new range extender – the Pinion Buddypack 240 – is available for the two models fitted with the Pinion MGU.
Across all models, you can look forward to two new colours – with one small caveat. Whilst Maroon is available on every Riese & Müller Charger5, Lavender is exclusive to the Riese & Müller Charger5 Mixte.

4. Riese & Müller opts for bold new colours for the Nevo5 for the 2027 season
New colours are also a feature of the Nevo5. Moss and Golden Yellow add accents that weren’t available before. The same applies to the Riese & Müller Nevo5 rücktritt Core. As the name suggests, this ebike features coaster braking. You can also add the new range extender to models fitted with the Pinion MGU drive system.

5. Riese & Müller Carrie2 e-cargo bike becomes a speedy commuter
The innovative e-cargo bike with its foldable cargo box will also be available as a speed pedelec in future. For this, the manufacturer has fitted the new Riese & Müller Carrie2 touring HS with the Bosch Performance Line Speed. At the opposite end of the price range – that is, at the lower end – the focus is more firmly on transporting children. The new Riese & Müller Carrie2 Family offers not only the right accessories but also greater safety and comfort when braking. This is thanks to Magura’s Integral Braking System (IBS), which coordinates the braking action of both brakes even though you only operate a single brake lever.
A dropper seatpost can also prove to be a real advantage in everyday use. All the more so if it’s suspension-equipped. Not only does this make getting on and off the bike easier, but it also absorbs vibrations. Riese & Müller now offers such a model for the Carrie2 on request. Furthermore, the colour range has been expanded to include a shade of blue called Denim.

6. Riese & Müller upgrades the Load5 with a motor-gear unit from Pinion
When the ebike motor and gear system are integrated into a single unit, this proves particularly beneficial on a cargo bike. The gear system is wear-free, maintenance for both components is reduced to a minimum, and the total weight is centred on the bottom bracket, ensuring good balance for the bike. The Pinion MGU, as such a unit, brings all these advantages to the Riese & Müller Load5 from the 2027 season onwards. The manufacturer is even expanding its range in two ways here – with a pedelec and a speed pedelec. Fitted as standard with a battery with a capacity of 800 watt-hours, there is also the option of a second battery of the same size, bringing the total capacity up to 1,600 watt-hours.

7. Disc brakes bring greater safety to the Riese & Müller Swing5
And last but not least, Riese & Müller is heralding the end of an era. We’re talking about rim brakes on ebikes. You’d only have come across them on the Swing5 anyway. They will continue to be fitted for at least another year. However, the manufacturer is switching with the higher-spec Riese & Müller Swing5 vario and Riese & Müller Swing5 automatic models to hydraulic disc brakes. As the latter have long since become standard on ebikes across almost all price ranges, the remaining two Swing5 variants are likely to follow suit in the foreseeable future.
