How do I find the right replacement battery for my e-bike?
The user manual for your e-bike contains detailed information about which drive system is installed on your bike and which batteries are compatible with it. Simply put: a Bosch motor requires a Bosch battery. That's why we have sorted the batteries in our shop by manufacturer (e.g. Bosch batteries, Giant batteries, Fazua batteries). On the left-hand side, you can refine your results and search for batteries with a specific capacity.
Are you unsure? Our customer service team will be happy to help you. Please have the following information ready:
- E-bike manufacturer
- Model year of the e-bike
- Drive manufacturer
- Position of the battery (frame/intube, seat tube, luggage rack)
How powerful should an e-bike battery be?
Battery capacity is measured in watt hours (Wh). The more watt hours, the greater the distance you can cover with the battery. How long the e-bike battery lasts depends on many factors, including:
- Your weight and load: Are you a large rider who commutes 50 km a day on your e-bike and does the weekly shopping on the way? Then choose the larger battery.
- Your route: Do you mainly ride shorter distances in a flat region on level cycle paths? Then the smaller battery will suffice.
- The selected assistance level: Do you only know one level on your e-MTB: forwards, and with power? Then choose the larger battery.
Many of our customers now swear by a second battery. This can be installed in the frame of compatible e-bikes (e.g. Giant Range Extender). Other riders prefer our special e-bike backpacks or pannier bags with battery compartments (e.g. Vaude E-Back) to have the necessary power on the go.
When should I buy a new e-bike battery and how do I dispose of the old one?
It's clear: in the event of serious damage, such as cracks in the casing or damaged contacts, the battery should be replaced as soon as possible for safety reasons: there is a risk of spontaneous combustion! Even if the battery is defective or its charging capacity has noticeably decreased, you should consider purchasing a new model. This usually happens after 500 to 1000 charging cycles. E-bike batteries of any kind should never be disposed of in the rubbish bin! They are hazardous waste and are recycled at great expense in order to recover valuable raw materials. Please take old batteries to a recycling centre or contact us.
