Many lights have sensors that control these features automatically. Bright and powerful lights are particularly suitable for night-time riding. There are numerous e-bike headlights with high beam. These provide even better illumination of your route.

Where should the light shine?
Positioning is just as important when choosing the right e-bike lighting. For headlights, there are two common mounting locations: the fork crown or the handlebars. Depending on your preference, you will need different lamp holders. With rear lights, there are even more mounting options. A common method is to attach them to the seat post, the luggage rack or directly into the mudguard.
Can I retrofit an e-bike light myself?
In many cases, you can retrofit or convert an e-bike light yourself. All you need to do is connect the suitable light cables from the motor to your e-bike lights. Suitable instructions can often be found in the scope of delivery or on the Internet. You should be careful with S-pedelecs up to 45 km/h, as these have special lighting requirements.
StVZO – is e-bike lighting mandatory?
If you use your bicycle on public roads, a suitable lighting system is mandatory. It is not sufficient to mount a headlight and a rear light with StVZO certification on your e-bike. For a complete lighting system, you will need:
- whitefront headlight
- red rear light
- White front reflector
- Red rear reflector
- Spoke reflectors
- Pedal reflectors at the front and rear
If you have equipped your e-bike in this way, you will be optimally visible in traffic and will not need to fear police checks.p>
Special case of S-pedelecs up to 45 km/h in the StVZO
ForFor fast e-bikes with motor assistance up to 45 km/h, there are special rules in the StVZO regarding number plates and insurance requirements. E-bike riders must always ride with their lights on, even during the day. In addition, the lighting system must meet specific requirements. For this reason, speed pedelecs are usually delivered from the factory with suitable lighting. When replacing your lights, be sure to choose a suitable speed pedelec lamp.
