The Shimano XTR disc brake adapter is used to mount larger brake rotors on frames and forks with an IS2000 mount. It allows the use of 200 mm brake rotors on forks with an IS 6" mount as well as 180 mm brake rotors on the rear triangle with an IS 5" mount.

The basis is the respective standard brake rotor size of the IS2000 standard:

Fork IS 6": 160 mm standard rotor size
Rear triangle IS 5": 140 mm standard rotor size

The XTR adapter increases the specified standard brake rotor size by +40 mm. This enables an upgrade from 160 mm to 200 mm brake rotors at the fork and from 140 mm to 180 mm brake rotors at the rear. The brake caliper is correctly positioned for the larger brake rotor via a Post Mount interface.
