Giant E-Bikes

WHAT DISTINGUISHES GIANT FROM OTHER COMPETITORS?

Some may associate the name with a US manufacturer. However, since its foundation in 1972, the company has had its headquarters on the island state of Taiwan, the world's number one bicycle stronghold, from where it delivered its first e-bike to Europe in 1999, which rolled off the production line as a series model. In order to be closer to what is currently the most important market for e-bikes, the manufacturer has massively expanded its presence in Europe in recent years. Giant is producing frames outside of Asia for the first time in a megafactory in Hungary. A service center opened in Germany at the end of 2021, where in the future wheels and motors will be repaired locally.

TECHNOLOGICAL PIONEER

One of Giant's strengths has always been the brand's innovative strength. The company was one of the very first manufacturers to use aluminum as a frame material. The same applies to carbon reinforced plastics. On this basis, it is very imaginative in its use of materials and constructs frames that hardly any other manufacturer can build. In addition to the frames, other developments set Giant e-bikes apart from the competition. Here are three examples:

  • Maestro rear suspension: The adaptable suspension system installed on the full-suspension e-mountainbikes combines four pivot points and two joints into a single movable pivot point. As a result, you pedal more efficiently as compression of the suspension and pedal kickback are actively prevented.
  • Flip chip: Combined with the Maestro stem, this eccentric insert in the upper rocker arm of the rear triangle allows you to change the steering and seat angle as well as the bottom bracket height. Adjusting the frame geometry gives you an advantage on the climbs or descents - depending on your preference.
  • E-Live Valve: Since the 2022 season, selected bikes have been equipped with Fox's electronically controlled suspension system as standard. The automatic system automatically adapts the behavior of the suspension fork and rear shock to the terrain you are riding on. And it does so a thousand times a second.

ALTERNATIVE TO BOSCH, BROSE AND CO. Another key difference to other manufacturers is the chosen electric drive. Traditionally, Giant cooperates with the Japanese manufacturer Yamaha. In short, if it says SyncDrive on it, it contains Yamaha hardware and Giant software. Since the 2022 season, the Shimano factor has been added to this equation. For its Revolt E+ e-gravel bike, Giant has adapted a Shimano motor, the EP8, for the first time. WHICH E-BIKE TYPES ARE IN THE GIANT RANGE?

TYPE E-MOUNTAIN FROM GIANT

The 2022 bike season marks a turning point in Giant's philosophy. Until now, the manufacturer has always preferred aluminum to carbon as the frame material for its e-mountainbikes. This has changed with the Trance X Advanced E+. Its frame is based on the high-performance carbon "Advanced Carbon", which Giant manufactures in-house. The abundance of model series clearly shows the importance of this type of e-bike within the Giant range. From full-suspension enduro e-MTBs to classic hardtails, everything is included. Even e-mountainbikes with standard equipment suitable for everyday use are included. You can recognize them by the abbreviation "EX" in the respective model name. They have a lighting system, mudguards, a pannier rack and a kickstand. Model series:

TYPE E-TREKKING FROM GIANT

Giant considers a trekking e-bike to be the complete package, i.e. standard suspension forks, permanently installed mudguards, front lights, rear lights integrated into the rack and a kickstand. Fully equipped in this way, they easily bridge the gap between everyday cycling in an urban environment and extended vacation trips by bike. The best-selling Explore E+ is available in size XL for men and women, and even in XXL for men. An S-Pedelec completes the model range. Model series:

  • Anytour E+
  • Explore E+
  • Explore E+ Pro

TYPE E-CITY FROM GIANT

The category of e-bikes that Giant classifies as e-city is quite diverse. These include step-through bikes, mostly equipped with hub gears, whose motors offer less power compared to the e-trekking and e-mountain categories. At the same time, however, they are noticeably more energy efficient. If you swear by a rack-mounted battery, you should take a look at the Entour + model range. Model series:
