What sets Giant apart from its competitors?
Some people may associate the name with a US manufacturer. However, since its foundation in 1972, the company has been based in Taiwan, the world's number one bicycle stronghold. From there, it delivered its first e-bike to Europe in 1999, which rolled off the production line as a series model.
In order to be closer to what is currently the most important market for e-bikes, the manufacturer has been massively expanding its presence in Europe in recent years. Giant is manufacturing frames outside Asia for the first time in a megafactory in Hungary. A service centre opened in Germany at the end of 2021, where wheels and motors will be repaired on site in the future.
Technological pioneer
One of Giant's strengths has always been the brand's innovative power. The company was one of the first manufacturers to use aluminium as a frame material. The same applies to carbon-reinforced plastics. On this basis, it uses materials in a very imaginative way and designs frames that hardly any other manufacturer can build.
In addition to their frames, Giant e-bikes stand out from the competition thanks to other developments. Three examples are briefly mentioned below:
- Maestro rear suspension: The adaptive suspension system installed on full-suspension e-mountain bikes combines four pivot points and two joints in a single moving pivot point. This allows you to pedal more efficiently, as compression of the suspension and pedal kickback are actively prevented.
- Flip-Chip: Combined with the Maestro headset, this eccentric insert in the upper rocker arm of the rear suspension allows you to change the steering and seat angles as well as the bottom bracket height. By adjusting the frame geometry, you can gain an advantage on climbs or descents, depending on your preference.
- E-Live Valve: Since the 2022 season, selected bikes have been equipped with Fox's electronically controlled suspension system as standard. The automatic system automatically adjusts the behaviour of the suspension fork and rear shock to the terrain you are currently riding on. And it does this a thousand times per second.
Alternative to Bosch, Brose and Co.
Another key difference to other manufacturers is the e-drive selected. Giant traditionally cooperates with Japanese manufacturer Yamaha. In short, where it says SyncDrive, there is Yamaha hardware and Giant software inside. Since the 2022 season, Shimano has been added to the equation. For its Revolt E+ e-gravel bike, Giant has adapted a Shimano motor, the EP8, for the first time.
What types of e-bikes are included in the Giant range?
Type E-Mountain by Giant
The 2022 cycling season marks a turning point in Giant's philosophy. Until now, the manufacturer had always preferred aluminium over carbon as the frame material for its e-mountain bikes. With the Trance X Advanced E+, that has changed. Its frame is based on the high-performance "Advanced Carbon" that Giant manufactures in-house.
The wide range of models clearly shows the importance of this type of e-bike within Giant's product range. From full-suspension enduro e-MTBs to classic hardtails, everything is included. Even e-mountain bikes with standard equipment suitable for everyday use are included. You can recognise them by the abbreviation "EX" in the respective model name. They feature a lighting system, mudguards, a luggage rack and a side stand.

Giant e-trekking bikes
Giant defines a trekking e-bike as the complete package, i.e. standard suspension forks, permanently installed mudguards, front lights, rear lights integrated into the luggage rack and side stands. With such comprehensive equipment, they easily bridge the gap between everyday cycling in urban environments and extended cycling holidays. The best-selling Explore E+ is available in XL frames for women and men, and even in XXL for men. An S-pedelec completes the model range.

E-City type from Giant
The category of e-bikes that Giant classifies as E-City is quite diverse. It includes low step-through bikes, most of which are equipped with hub gears, whose motors offer less power than those in the E-Trekking and E-Mountain categories. At the same time, however, they prove to be noticeably more energy-efficient. Those who swear by a battery mounted on the luggage rack should take a look at the Entour + model series. The Fastroad E+ EX Pro promises plenty of speed for city cycling. With its combination of rigid fork, sporty seating position and 2.4-inch-wide semi-slick tyres, it has a character all of its own.
Model series:
- Dailytour E+
- Entour E+
- Fastroad E+ EX Pro
Available frame shapes: Diamond, low step-through
Models with lights, mudguards and luggage rack: yes
Type E-Gravel by Giant
Giant discovered the relatively new category of e-gravel bikes early on. As a result, the Revolt E+ is already entering its third season in the 2022 model year. In keeping with its type, the bike combines features from different genres. This means you're just as well equipped for the road as you are for forest and woodland trails. Fitted with the right bikepacking bags, it's particularly suitable for longer rides.

Available frame shape: Diamond
Models with lights, mudguards and luggage rack: No
