With the Shimano STEPS BT‑E8016 battery, Shimano introduces an external power pack with an impressive 630 Wh capacity. Alongside the newer internal BT‑E8036, it is the highest‑capacity battery currently offered by Shimano. Thanks to its exceptional range, long e‑mountain bike tours are easily manageable. In addition to its performance, this frame‑mounted battery also offers a long service life: even after 1000 charging cycles, it still retains at least 60% of its total capacity.

The BT‑E8016 can be charged both externally and while mounted on the bike. Its sleek design integrates seamlessly into the overall appearance of the electric bike. Furthermore, LED indicators display the current charge level and signal potential system errors. The battery is secured in the holder by a lock and can be removed quickly and easily by turning the key.

Replacing the Shimano BT‑E8010 with the BT‑E8016

The Shimano BT‑E8010 battery can be replaced with the larger Shimano BT‑E8016 battery. The overall height of the BT‑E8016 has increased by approximately 2 cm, while length and width, as well as the battery mount interface, remain identical. When upgrading, it is essential to replace the existing battery holder with the new BM‑E8016 battery mount, which is required to securely attach the external battery to the frame. The BM‑E8016 mount has been reinforced by Shimano to safely support the higher weight of the 630 Wh battery.

Charger compatibility notice for the Shimano STEPS BT‑E8016

Shimano has updated the BT‑E8016 frame battery. As a result of this technical revision, the battery is now only compatible with the chargers Shimano EC‑E6002 and EC‑E8004. The older EC‑E6000 charger uses the same connector but is no longer compatible with the revised battery generation and cannot reliably charge the BT‑E8016. Please ensure that you use an up‑to‑date, compatible charger when charging your e‑bike battery.
